History

The Overture Center for the Arts is a performing arts center located in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The center was commissioned by Jerome Frautschi and Pleasant Rowland, designed by Cesar Pelli, and opened to the public in 2004. Pelli is an American architect who has designed some of the world's most iconic buildings. Perhaps his most famous works are the Petronas Twin Towers, which were for a time the world's tallest buildings. He also designed the World Financial Center complex (since renamed Brookfield Place), in downtown Manhattan. The Overture Center houses four performance venues, including a 2,251-seat Overture Hall, a 1,088-seat Capitol Theater, and two smaller theaters. It is also home to nine art galleries, several restaurants, and a gift shop.

When Wisconsin philanthropists Jon and Judy beginning dreaming of a world-class arts center for their home state, they had no idea that their dream would become a reality on such a grand scale. With the help of architect Cesar Pelli, they envisioned a complex that would be both a beacon of culture and a gathering place for the community. To make their dream a reality, they donated $205 million to the project - the largest private gift to the arts of its kind. Today, the Overture Center is an iconic part of Madison's skyline, and it continues to serve as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
